The Warning Signs: How to Recognize Burnout Before It’s Too Late
Burnout doesn’t happen overnight—it creeps in slowly, draining joy, passion, and energy. Scripture reminds us that even the strongest among us can grow weary. Elijah, after his great victory on Mount Carmel, fled in exhaustion and despair, crying out, “I have had enough, Lord” (1 Kings 19:4). If a prophet of God can reach this point, so can we.
Signs of Impending Burnout
- Emotional and Physical Exhaustion – Do you wake up feeling just as tired as when you went to bed? Psalm 32:3 says, “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.” Ignoring exhaustion only worsens the problem.
- Loss of Passion and Joy – If ministry, work, or daily life feels like a burden rather than a calling, you may be experiencing burnout. Revelation 2:4 warns about forsaking our “first love” for God.
- Isolation and Cynicism – When Elijah fled, he left his servant behind and withdrew into the wilderness (1 Kings 19:3-4). Burnout often leads to isolation and negativity.
God’s Response to Burnout
God’s response to Elijah wasn’t rebuke but restoration. He provided rest, nourishment, and a fresh calling (1 Kings 19:5-16). If you recognize these signs, take them seriously. Prioritize rest, lean on community, and seek God’s guidance.

Book of the week
In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day by Mark Batterson is a faith-driven book that encourages readers to embrace challenges and take risks rather than shrink back in fear. Inspired by the biblical story of Benaiah, a warrior who chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day and killed it (2 Samuel 23:20-21), Batterson uses this account to illustrate how God-given opportunities often come disguised as obstacles. He argues that stepping out in faith, even when circumstances seem daunting, leads to personal growth, spiritual breakthroughs, and a life of purpose. The book challenges readers to trust God more, overcome fear, and seize the moments that define their destiny.
Something cool about Costa Rica
The Nicoya Peninsula is a Blue Zone – This region is one of the five places in the world where people live significantly longer, often surpassing 100 years old, due to their diet, lifestyle, and strong sense of community.
